I still stand by my decision – Martha Ankomah on defamation suit against Lil Win

Actress Martha Ankomah of Ghana has stated that legal proceedings concerning her lawsuit against colleague Kwadwo Nkansah, also referred to as Lilwin, are still pending.

The actress has stated that she does not intend to rescind the lawsuit because she wants the legal system to work its course.

“I have not withdrawn the suit, I believe the rule of law works in this country.

Thus, I do not think you can offend someone and get away with it. We must set a good example for others to follow if we claim to be role models. I therefore filed a lawsuit. I hope you understand that building a brand takes years, as she said in an interview with UTV, based in Accra.

Miss Ankomah sued Lilwin on February 14, 2024, alleging that he had made derogatory comments about her professionalism and integrity.

The actress sued in an Accra High Court, requesting an apology, GH¢5 million in damages, and the removal of the extremely offensive words in question.

Martha has expressed hope that the court will take the appropriate action in this case in the interim.

“If the court does not teach him a lesson, it will be a very bad example that may encourage the next generation to just say anything about people,” the actress went on.

He commended the management and teachers of the St James Seminary SHS for consistently producing award-winning students.

    Exams malpractice
In a welcome address, the Chairman of the Council, Professor Ato Essuman, gave the assurance that the council was doing all it could to confront the menace of examination malpractice head-on.

“It gives us much worry therefore when we hear of persistent incidence of examination malpractice in public examinations because it represents a threat to public confidence in the credibility of the examination system,” Prof. Essuman said.

As a result, he urged all governments and members of WAEC to back the organization’s efforts to eradicate the threat and urged all parties involved to work together to confront it.

    Appreciation
In a speech, Mr Amo-Kodieh said he was, “highly elated and deem it a great honour and privilege to have been selected as the overall best student of the 2023 WASSCE”.

He said he had constantly shown dedication to pushing his intellectual boundaries, accepting new challenges, and actively participating in a dynamic learning environment throughout his pursuit of academic excellence.

Mr Amo-Kodieh was grateful to the government and all stakeholders for the immense support, “that has promoted this course of achievement to fruition.”

“We the awardees would like to reiterate our profound gratitude to the government, the GES, the Ministry of Education, the WAEC and particularly our families for the role each of them played in our education,” he said

SHS students to receive free laptops – Prez Akufo Addo promises

A ground-breaking programme to improve digital access and education in secondary schools across Ghana is about to be launched by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of the country.

The “One Student One Laptop” programme, which is set to launch on March 25th, has the potential to completely transform the educational experience for students attending Senior High Schools (SHSs) throughout Ghana.

With the implementation of this initiative, all SHS students will be given personal laptops, which will help close the digital divide and provide young people with the resources they need to succeed in the technologically advanced world of today. Students will start receiving laptops as soon as the official launch takes place.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, the programme gives every SHS student a government-provided laptop that has already been pre-programmed with the goal of improving computer literacy and technological proficiency among young Ghanaian students.

Additionally, it is consistent with government initiatives supporting digitalization and e-learning. In preparing Ghanaian students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, popularly known as the digital age, it also fits with the government’s plan to leverage technology breakthroughs.

By providing Digital Learning Content, Teaching and Learning Management Systems, and Educational Devices to all Senior High and TVET Schools across the country, the initiative seeks to improve Senior High School Education.

The government’s pledge to give laptops to each and every SHS student was made public by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last year. The execution of this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to secondary education, particularly in light of the fact that instruction at that level has been free since 2017.

  • Telecel Ghana to refund data package after network restoration

Telecel Ghana to refund data package after network restoration

Telecel Ghana, a telecommunications service provider, has announced that it will begin offering its customers a data refund for expired bundles as a result of the nationwide network disruptions that occurred on March 14.

Telecel said that its services are being restored and that it has regained all of its lost connectivity in a statement that was uploaded on X.

“Dear cherished customer, Telecel Ghana is pleased to inform you that we [have] secured 100% of our internet capacity and services are being restored. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period.

“Please be assured that our team has started work on refunds of expired bundles and related issues”, the statement concluded.

In a related development, Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, announced that telecom service providers are obtaining additional network capacity in order to address the nation’s ongoing internet blackout.

Ken Ashigbey in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight programme on Monday, March 18, noted, amongst other things, that the connectivity challenges Ghanaians faced following the cable cuts are not the same currently as “we are beginning to see an improvement in the services”.

“As we talked about a minimum of five weeks to fix those cables, the telecom service providers and then the undersea cable [service providers] would be looking to bring capacity from other sources into the country.

“And so once they’re able to bring adequate capacity to meet what you actually had before the [cable cuts], then you’d have provided the connectivity back to what it was and so you’d not be getting that from those four cables”, Ing. Ken Ashigbey told Keminni Amanor, the host.

After the repairs are finished, he said, telecom service providers will be able to return to the cable source, stressing that “the most important thing is to continue sourcing from other sources as we wait for those cables to be fixed”.

  • I’m the new IMF for Ghana – Cheddar

I’m the new IMF for Ghana – Cheddar

The founder and leader of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has promised that if elected president, he will mobilise Ghana’s resources to ensure that the nation never again needs assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He supported this with a story about how, even though he earned a significant portion of his income overseas, Ghana supplied the majority of the resources he used to do so.

“Although I made half a million outside Ghana, all the industrialisation and projects I have in my empire came from the resources I mobilised in this country,” Mr Bediako said in a radio interview.

Asserting effective resource management is a top priority, the independent presidential candidate hinted that Ghana could quickly achieve socioeconomic stability and self-sufficiency.

“I am the new IMF for Ghana if I can find a solution for Ghana to gain $10 billion to $30 billion within 4 years,” he added while outlining his vision for revitalising the country’s economy and improving the standard of living for the ordinary citizen.

In the same spirit, Cheddar declared that, should he be elected to the highest position in the land, he would lead the entire nation with fewer than 20 ministers in order to reduce spending and the wastage of tax payers’ money.

Regarding the contentious topic of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQI+), Mr. Bediako recommended the media to hold off on demeaning the issue since they were calling people’s attention—especially young people—to it.

“I was brought up in Ghana, and I know nothing about LGBTQI+. I think we were not taught that, and we must be cautious about how we are making it popular through various mediums,” he explained.

In addition, when questioned about it, Cheddar stated that he was in favour of modifying Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to ensure good governance and to reflect modern times, but that it should be done gradually to avoid completely ruining it.

“I think the constitution of Ghana should be reviewed slowly. If you try to change something with force, it can be broken,” the Leader and Founder of the New Force said.

Using the occasion, Mr. Bediako urged Ghanaians, particularly the younger generation, to join and support the New Force, claiming that it was their only chance for salvation.

  • Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash-lands at Agona Nkwanta (Video)

Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash-lands at Agona Nkwanta (Video)

Tuesday, March 19, 2024, saw the emergency landing of a Ghanaian Armed Forces helicopter at Bonsukrom in Agona Nkwanta, in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.

The cause of the forced landing is still unknown.

According to a resident who spoke to JoyNews, the helicopter hovered over the area for some time in an attempt to find a suitable site for an emergency landing, but lost its balance and crashed into nearby trees.

The aircraft was situated approximately 20 metres away from the Bonsukrom road.

The helicopter stuck among the shrubs can be seen from the side in amateur video.

According to a statement from the military, the helicopter carried 21 passengers, including aircrew and employees of the Ghana National Gas Company.

They were said to be “Conducting routine offshore powerline inspection of the Atuabo Gas plant when the incident occurred.”

Although some of them had minor injuries, no deaths had been reported, according to another eyewitness who spoke with Myjoyonline.

He said “We were on our way back from Dixcove when we heard a loud ‘boom’ sound.”

According to reports, this incident drew a sizable crowd to the location as many town residents trooped over.

However, as the passengers were being transported to the hospital for medical attention, security officers made an effort to keep the throng at bay.

For emergency care, one of the injured is being taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The GAF also stated that “preliminary assessments have commenced to ascertain the cause of the incident” in the statement released by Brig. Gen. Aggrey-Quashie, Director of Public Relations.

  • Nana Kwame Bediako pledges to extend the sea to Kumasi

Nana Kwame Bediako pledges to extend the sea to Kumasi

Leader of The New Force Movement and well-known figure in Ghanaian business circles, Nana Kwame Bediako, is currently mired in controversy after making the audacious pledge to extend the sea from Ghana’s coast into the landlocked Ashanti Region of the nation.

Known as Cheddar, Nana Kwame Bediako, who is adored by many as “Freedom Jacob Caesar” or just “Cheddar,” has generated a lot of discussion, with some doubting the viability and usefulness of his pledge.

Bediako described his ambitious plan in an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua 96.5 FM in Kumasi. He drew inspiration from the revolutionary experiences of other countries that have extended maritime transport routes inland. He remarked, “Why are we still transporting individual containers by road when the sea could offer a faster and more efficient means?” Bediako enquired, pointing out the flaws in the present transport infrastructure. He lamented, “I want to open up the East and Western Corridor infrastructure. I want to build power stations, and energy stations, connect the gas, create industries, and bring technology.”

Bediako’s plan goes beyond simple logistics of transportation. His vision calls for a thorough reconstruction of Ghana’s infrastructure, with a focus on the Eastern and Western Corridors. This covers the construction of gas connections, power plants, energy facilities, industrial complexes, and the incorporation of state-of-the-art technologies.

Additionally, Bediako challenges Ghana to utilise its abundant resources for the production of electronic devices using locally sourced materials like plastic and lithium. He also advocates for a shift towards value addition and local manufacturing.

On the other hand, there is widespread doubt about Bediako’s proposal’s viability. Many raise concerns about the financial, environmental, and technical difficulties in extending the sea into the Ashanti Region. Opponents claim that this kind of project would need enormous planning, enormous investment, and possibly negative ecological effects.

Known as a “listening tour,” Bediako is currently touring the country in order to interact with common Ghanaians and incorporate their suggestions into his platform for the next national election.

  • Most American gospel artistes are gay – Sonnie Badu boldly asserts

Most American gospel artistes are gay – Sonnie Badu boldly asserts

A significant number of American gospel musicians identify as LGBT+, according to Ghanaian gospel musician and pastor Sonnie Badu.

Sonnie Badu, the lead pastor of Atlanta’s Rockhill Church, revealed this information in an interview with Accra FM. According to him, more than 78% of American gospel musicians and preachers identify as LGBT+.

“In America, about 78% of gospel musicians there are gay; most of these popular musicians that we play their songs on our airwaves and in our churches are into LGBT activities. If you get to know them you won’t play their songs again. Even some of the bishops that we follow and listen to are involved in LGBT activities,” he said.

He said that a fellow gospel musician had once cautioned him against getting involved in such affairs.

“One of the gospel musicians even warned me to mind my business when I see the things they’re involved in because they know I am conservative,” he said.

Sonnie Badu also expressed his worries about the impact of the LGBT+ movement, claiming that it is visible in the media, in the classroom, and in the entertainment industry, among other spheres of society.

He continued by saying that seemingly innocent cartoons can convey subtle messages, which is why he forbade the viewing of such material in his home.

“This LGBT+ agenda is not just in Ghana, it’s everywhere, it’s in many countries, in their books, schools, cartoons, etc.

Personally, in my house, my children don’t watch cartoons again. These innocent cartoons are now subtly sending messages to our children. It’s disturbing as a parent,” he said.

The anti-LGBT+ Bill, which was approved by parliament on February 28, 2024, is still awaiting ratification by the president.

The Bill intends to criminalise the practice of or advocacy for LGBT+ causes, with potential sentences for prosecutors ranging from three to five years.
