Ebenezer Smith, a Ghanaian chef known by the moniker Chef Smith, has issued an apology over his falsified Guinness World Record (GWR) certificate.

During a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday, Chef Smith claimed he had set a new GWR for the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking in an impressive 802 hours and 25 minutes.

However, upon verification, GWR confirmed that the certificate Chef Smith displayed did not come from them. According to GWR, “The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”

In a tearful interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, Chef Smith apologized to Ghanaians and the international community for the deception and disgrace his actions had caused.

“I want to apologize deeply on this significant platform. To the world, I am truly sorry. In my desperation to make a living, I made a grave mistake. I don’t deserve to live. I beg for forgiveness from the entire nation,” he pleaded.

The attempt by Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual has failed.

Her goal was to surpass Alan Fisher’s official record of 119 hours.

However, Chef Faila revealed that her attempt did not meet some of the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR) in a press release that was posted on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 3.

A portion of the statement said, “A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.”

Notwithstanding the obstacle, GWR congratulated Chef Faila and urged her to go for more records.

Chef Faila expresses gratitude to Ghanaians and everyone who supported her during her attempt.

“Although this attempt did not result in a world record, it has been an invaluable experience. I am proud of the dedication and hard work put forth, and I am committed to continuing to push boundaries in the culinary world,” she added.

Chef Faila began her longest cooking marathon for GWR on January 1st and concluded it at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale on January 10th.

She spent ten days in the kitchen and finished her attempt at a 227-hour cook-a-thon.

Failatu demonstrated remarkable culinary prowess during the long cooking session, crafting a wide variety of dishes in the midst of a vibrant cultural exhibition by the Northern Region’s populace.

  • Blakk Rasta asserts Cook-a-thon attempt by Chef Faila is a “suicide mission”

Blakk Rasta asserts Cook-a-thon attempt by Chef Faila is a “suicide mission”

The media personality Blakk Rasta has expressed apprehension about Chef Faila’s continuous endeavour to surpass the Guinness World Record for the lengthiest culinary marathon.

Concerns regarding possible health risks related to Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon were voiced by Blakk Rasta. He vehemently disagreed with the notion that people should deprive themselves of enough sleep for an extended length of time, calling it a “suicide mission.” Using the occasion, he issued a warning against the growing nationwide trend of different types of marathons, such as sex-a-thons, stand-a-thons, and kiss-a-thons.

Blakk Rasta stressed the importance of putting one’s own wellbeing first in a video that Happyhome TV posted on their YouTube channel. He emphasised that it is dangerous to go without sleep for longer than three days and made it clear that he could not support such initiatives. Although he commended the participants’ efforts, he hoped they would think twice about the possible long-term effects on their health.

“They want to have a sex-a-thon in Ghana. Some wish to participate in a stand-a-thon. They spend five hours standing this way. No resting or doing anything for five hours. Another desire of some is to participate in a kiss-a-thon. That was a picture of Chef Faila in Tamale going about her business. Once more, even though we adore and value them, I will not support a suicide mission.

“I also believe that going more than three days without sleep is a suicide mission. That is not something I will endorse. Regarding you, I have no idea. I refer to it as a suicide mission, but you call it pushing the envelope. He prayed that they would not perish and would take a lesson that would benefit the entire country.

The Modern City Hotel in Tamale is the venue for Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon, which has already exceeded the 200-hour mark and is scheduled to last 240 hours in total.
