    Norwegian embassy collaborates with Kobby Kyei to construct Zebra Crossing at Sowutuom (Photos)

    A zebra crossing has been built for the people of Sowutuom by Ghanaian blogger and media personality Augustus Koranteng Kyei, also known as Kobby Kyei, with assistance from the Norwegian ambassador, Ingrid Mollestad.

    This follows his advocacy of the Respect Zebra Crossing Campaign last year, which brought attention to the carelessness of drivers who ignore zebra crossings.

    The newly constructed zebra crossing will benefit the local population, particularly the Mizpah-D Academy students who are victims of careless drivers.

    According to Kobby Kyei, he launched the campaign after observing that one of the most disregarded traffic laws is the zebra crossing. He added that after doing his survey, he discovered that violating the zebra crossing law by drivers was one of the main reasons why people died on the roads.

    “I drive, and whenever I drive, I see how elderly people and children struggle to cross the street, particularly when they are at the zebra crossing. That is when I realised I had to take the lead in promoting this road safety initiative. Drivers who disregard zebra crossings are the main cause of traffic fatalities. So, I want to make a change.” he said.

    Since the campaign began, many drivers have complied with traffic laws, according to the blogger.

    Recently, a friend told me that while he was driving, he saw that the driver stopped at each zebra crossing. When he asked why he was stopping at every zebra crossing, he replied, “Have not you heard about Kobby Kyei’s Respect Zebra Crossing campaign? That is the impact we are fighting for,” he continued.

    Her Excellency Ingrid Mollestad, Norway’s Ambassador to Ghana also shared a lovely time with the kids of Mizpah-D Academy where the new zebra crossing was constructed. She educated them about road safety and how to use the zebra crossing properly when crossing.

    Her Excellency Ingrid Mollestad believes road safety in the nation can improve in Ghana, so she supports the little way she can.

    It is safe to say that road safety in Ghana can be enhanced, which is why I am thrilled to support Kobby Kyei and his Respect Zebra Crossing project. I feel fortunate and content to be here with the Mizpah-D Academy children. She clarified, “We inaugurated the new zebra crossing and talked about road safety.”

    Netherlands football star Quincy Promes sentenced to six years in prison for drug trafficking

    Quincy Promes, a forward for Spartak Moscow, was found guilty of drug trafficking by a Dutch court on Wednesday and given a six-year prison sentence in absentia.

    Promes, a former international for the Netherlands, did not show up for court proceedings in Amsterdam and is not anticipated to return there anytime soon.
    Promes was involved in the smuggling of 1,360 kg of cocaine into the Netherlands in two shipments in 2020 through the port of Antwerp, Belgium, and the prosecution last month requested a nine-year sentence for him.

    According to the court, phone tapping revealed Promes’ direct involvement in the drug shipments—which were concealed in shipments of Brazilian salt—and their subsequent transportation from the port.
    His attorneys told the Dutch daily AD Promes that he would file an appeal of the sentence because he contests the allegations that he imported, exported, transported, and owned the drugs.

    The 32-year-old former forward for Ajax Amsterdam and Sevilla was found guilty of assault last year in absentia. The incident involved a fight in 2020 during which he stabbed his cousin in the knee. This is just one of several court cases involving Dutch courts.

    Money is an essential component of love, so you can not eliminate it. In actuality, love ultimately results in financial gain. Sometimes, relationships involving no money do not work out.

    “When you meet certain people, you fall in love with them, but when money is involved, it drives you further in the relationship,” the woman remarked.

    Counsellor Charlotte Oduro further advised people to put love above money and other presents when they receive them from others who express interest in them.

    “That is me; I have to love you before I can accept anything from you. She continued, “I believe that love should come before everything else.”

    Conversations about matters of love have often turned to the subject of money in relationships.

    In the coastal communities of Half Assini, Jomoro District, Western Region, teenage girls are increasingly trading sex for fish.

    According to a JoyNews report, some of the fishermen in the seaside town take advantage of the girls for sex when their harvests are particularly large.

    During harvest, these teenage girls, who assist with household chores, visit the beach to catch fish for their homes.

    But they are now the objects of sexual exploitation, having to pay for each fish that is offered to them during a sexual encounter.

    Half Assini locals refer to this as “sex for fish.” The area’s rates of teenage pregnancies and single mothers have gone up as a result of the phenomenon.

    Irene Obeng, Deputy Manager of the Jomoro Fishery Commission, claimed that fishermen take advantage of young girls because of their age in an interview with JoyNews on February 12.

    According to her, “fish for sex is prevalent in the community, so the fishermen take advantage of the girls’ youth and have sex with them.”

    According to Maxwell, a Jomoro fisherman with over ten years of experience, “Everyone fights for the fish when it comes in, so if you are not fast you will not get some.”

    “However, some individuals approach fishermen directly in search of fish, which they do not receive for free. It is a barter system, so you give me fish and I give you sex,” he continued.

    As for married women pleading with fishermen for fish, Maxwell claims that they are also sexually abused.

    Adwoa, a 17-year-old single mother who was the victim of sexual exploitation, disclosed that it was under these conditions that she first met her child’s father.

    Adwoa claimed that when they first started dating, he brought the fish home, sold some of them to make money, and used the remainder to feed the family.

    She did, however, disclose that they broke up when she discovered she was luring other girls into sexual relationships by using the tactic known as “sex for fish.”

    A local teacher told JoyNews that she has witnessed several girls leave school early due to adolescent pregnancies, some of which are brought on by transnational relationships.

    Our primary goal is to win hearts rather than accolades, so we have no interest in selecting candidates for the VGMA. We do not want to get sidetracked or stray from our special calling,” they stated.

    Additionally, they stated that even though they will not be buying forms to complete, they will still go to the event if they are nominated.

    The sisters disclosed that they had been receiving honours from various award programmes across the globe without submitting nominations.

    “If you want to do it for us, just go ahead and pick it; we’re ok,” they said.

    The trio went on to say that they are motivated by accounts of how their songs have changed people’s lives.

    They related the story of how their song “Nea Yehu Yi” saved a man who was pronounced dead because doctors were unable to determine the nature of his illness.

    He claimed to have been looking for us for the past two years but was unsure of where to look.

    According to him, “he was sick at Korle Bu, and the doctors declared him dead. They failed to notice the kind of illness he was afflicted with, so he returned home. When he got home, he put his radio on a particular station, and they were playing one of our songs, “Nea Yehu Yi.”

    “He listened to the song, and after the DJ gave directions on where to get the CD, he sent someone to buy one for him. He repeated the song to himself at home for 2 weeks, and all he saw was himself being healed,” Cynthia, their lead singer, narrated.

    According to them, such testimonials inspire them to carry out more deeds that honour the Lord.

    The musical group has developed musicians, and they remain accessible and eager to instruct additional individuals in the gospel ministry.

    Big Akwes is said to be in Germany. He says he is not going to stay there permanently; he is just visiting.

    Police detain four more suspects in the murder of the CEO of “Jirapa Dubai”

    In relation to the passing of Mr Eric Johnson, CEO of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel in the Upper West Region—also known as “Jirapa Dubai”—the Ghana Police Service has detained four more suspects.

    The police report states that on Sunday, February 11, Mr. Eric Johnson was discovered dead in a pool of blood in one of the hotel rooms.

    Since then, the Police have started looking into the incident. An individual was previously placed under arrest to aid in the investigation.

    “Dookuuri Fausta, Braimah Kasim, Beyuo Felix, and Michael Klugey, who are all employees of the Cossy Hill Hotel, are in Police custody assisting the investigation along with suspect Kumbata Kwaku who was earlier arrested,” the Police stated, providing an update to the public on their investigation.

    In order to help the police with their investigation, this raises the total number of suspects to five.

    “The police statement concluded that the investigation is still ongoing with the goal of bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice.”

    Background
    The alleged murder of the business mogul was made known to the public in a Facebook post by one Kennedy Mornah, a reporter from the region. It is believed that Mr. Mornah has a close relationship with the deceased CEO.

    ”Owner of Jirapa Dubai allegedly murdered? How did we get here? A very sad way indeed to begin the year,” Kennedy Mornah posted on Facebook.

    Meanwhile, some unconfirmed reports are connecting the gruesome murder of Mr. Johnson to chieftaincy issues in the Jirapa District, where the deceased hails from.

    According to reports, Mr. Eric Johnson was allegedly complicit in a plot to force the Jirapa traditional area’s residents to elect a certain individual as chief.

    The move by Mr. Johnson, according to reports, infuriated certain members of the royal family, who petitioned him along with other family members and the Tendaaba, who were plotting to name a chief for the traditional area.

    “Mr Eric Johnson should be advised not to gamble with the peace of the Naa Angsoleh Aanaa/Naa Yelpoe Royal families,” portions of the petition read.

    “They, therefore, call on all families to rise against Eric Johnson’s naked conduct,” the statement continued. “This is likely to breach the stool and, by extension, the PARAMOUNTCY’s current peace.” Additionally, we would like to clarify that the Jirapa Chieftaincy stool will be given to the highest bidder and is not up for sale.
