Rent is more expensive in Canada than here; be grateful – Hawa Koomson to Ghanaians

Ghanaians have been cautioned by Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Mavis Hawa Koomson to be happy with the state of affairs in their nation.

The cost of living is a global crisis, she claimed, but living conditions in Ghana are still far better than in other countries.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East recently urged Ghanaians to compare rent rates in Ghana and Canada during an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo and JB on Onua FM’s morning show, Yɫn Nsʛmpa.

She spoke about her recent trip to Canada, pointing out that it was much more expensive than Ghana to rent even a single room there—more than 2,000 Canadian dollars a month.

“People have been bemoaning the high cost of rent in Ghana. They should go to Canada. You pay more than two thousand Canadian dollars a month. That is not even for a chamber and hall—that is just for one room.

“When you compare Ghana to other countries, Ghana is doing far better,” she said in Twi. “Things are hard now, and there is a high cost of living everywhere.”

She claimed that despite difficulties in the world economy, Ghana is still reasonably priced, and she attributed this to the efforts of the government.

In response to complaints that living conditions in Canada were better than in Ghana, Koomson refuted the claim that living expenses in Canada are higher.
