    Bawumia commissions ultra-modern hostel facility for kayayei (Photos)

    In an effort to improve the lives of head porters, or “kayayei,” Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially opened a brand-new dormitory facility in Accra on May 21, 2024.

    The facility aims to carry out a government commitment to provide housing and vocational training in order to address the urgent needs of the Kayayei and enhance their socioeconomic status.

    “It was a great pleasure this afternoon, in Accra, as I commissioned a multi-purpose hostel facility for head potters (Kayayei), as well as a training programme, the Kayayei Empowerment Programme for them.

    “The commissioning of the ultra-modern residential facility and training centre, is in fulfilment of a promise I made to the head potters, on behalf of government, when I visited their hub in Agbogbloshie, Accra, to greet them.

    “With government adding a training programme to the residential facility, we have moved beyond the promise of addressing their pressing needs, to also offering them transitional job pathways, to enhance their socio-economic status,” the vice president said in a Facebook post.

    With additional centres being built in Techiman and Kumasi, the facilities, which are situated in Madina and Ashaiman, are a part of a larger initiative to affect over 100,000 Kayayei nationwide.

    At the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bawumia gave thanks to all of the government agencies and partners that worked together to make the project a reality.

    “I am profoundly grateful to the following government agencies: the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), “District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Ghana Gas, Ghana Health Service, and BOST, as well as the Father Campbell Foundation, for their collaborative efforts in making this possible.

    “Many doubted this when the promise was made, but once again, we have proven that with a possibility mindset, and the right partnership, nothing is impossible. Indeed, it is possible!” he added.

    Gborbu Wulomo summons Fella Makafui and Medikal regarding the purchase of land at Nungua

    The Overlord of the Gadangme State, Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, has called Ghanaian rapper Medikal and his ex-wife Fella Makafui to his palace in relation to their acquisition of land in Nungua.

    On Friday, May 24, 2024, the troubled couple is scheduled to make an appearance at the Gborbu Wulomo’s palace to address the issues raised.

    This invitation comes after a land document that names Medikal and Fella Makafui as the buyers of the aforementioned land went viral on social media. In order to validate their purchase, the Gborbu Wulomo has asked that the couple bring all supporting documentation.

    The document leaked online during Medikal and Fella’s public spat. Their dispute extends to their current residence, where both are living together. For the sake of their daughter, Fella’s name was added, despite Medikal’s claim that he only contributed the money. Fella, on the other hand, contests this and has promised to make her case in court.

    The purpose of the Gborbu Wulomo’s invitation is to verify the veracity of their claims to land acquisition. The couple, who was formerly well-known for their public displays of affection, has disclosed that they are divorcing and are going through marital difficulties.

    Medikal asked Fella’s cousin to vacate their shared residence, which led to recent arguments over their living arrangements.

    Their dispute has gotten even more intense as a result of Fella asking the Criminal Investigation Department to look into Medikal.

    The Ghana Police Service has requested an injunction from the High Court to prevent actress Yvonne Nelson from carrying out her scheduled vigil, known as the “#DumsorMustStop,” in protest of the inconsistent power supply.

    This action was taken a few days after the protest organisers were advised by the Accra Regional Police Command to think about relocating the event.

    The demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024. The actress alleges that the periodic blackout, or “dumsor,” that occurs in the area is having a negative effect on her business.

    In 2015, the actress led a demonstration along these lines.

    In accordance with the law, Yvonne Nelson and her group met with the Ghana Police Service a few days ago to inform them of the planned protest.

    Following the meeting, the police objected to the Yvonne Nelson’s team’s suggested route, arguing that Revolution Square, the intended destination, is near the Jubilee House, a security area.

    The police expressed apprehension regarding the plan to conclude the demonstration at midnight.

    On the other hand, protest organisers disagreed, stating that there were no problems with the protest’s end time and that the endpoint was far from the Jubilee House.

    In compliance with the Public Order Act, the police have immediately filed an application to end the protest.

    A hearing in this case has been set for May 24, 2024.

    The richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, has expressed his displeasure with the strict visa regulations impeding travel within the continent.

    The chairman and CEO of Dangote Group emphasised the bureaucratic obstacles he must overcome in order to travel across the continent on business, requiring the issuance of 35 separate visas.

    During an Africa CEO Forum session in Kigali, Dangote, who is well-known for his large investments throughout the continent, voiced his complaints.

    “As an investor, as somebody who really wants to make Africa great, I have to now apply for 35 different visas on my passport, and I told Mr President that I really don’t have the time to go and be dropping my passport at embassies to get a visa,” he stated.

    Noting that foreign businesspeople frequently have easier access, he emphasised the difference in treatment between African nationals and foreigners. “I can assure you Patrick [Pouyanné, CEO of Total Energies] doesn’t need 35 visas… You don’t need 35 visas on a French passport, which means you have free movement than myself in Africa,” Dangote added, highlighting the bias in the visa system that favours non-Africans over Africans.

    An important gathering that promotes business development through the sharing of knowledge and experiences is the Africa CEO Forum, which unites institutions, international investors, and African leaders. The main obstacle still stands to be visa restrictions, even with its goal of streamlining business operations throughout the continent.

    Presently, only five African nations—the Seychelles, Gambia, Benin, Kenya, and Rwanda—permit visitors from other African countries to enter freely. With Ghana’s recent addition to this list, there has been a minor but notable advancement in intra-African mobility.

    Dangote’s comments highlight how more African nations must enact laws that make it simpler for people to travel for business, as doing so could greatly accelerate regional integration and economic growth. Resolving these visa issues is still a top priority for policymakers as Africa looks to the continent for more development and investment.

    Rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, better known by his stage name Medikal, is a multiple award winner. He recently showed love to the students at Oduman Asuaba M/A Basic School in the Ga South District of the Greater Accra Region.

    In an effort to better society and change lives, the young rapper donated alongside Ghanaian humanitarian blogger KOBBY KYEI, with assistance from NAA AYELEY, the first runner-up in Ghana Most Beautiful 2023.

    The team painted the classrooms for Ghana’s future leaders in addition to donating chairs, tables, books, and other stationary items in support of the school.

    Sarkodie clarifies, “My ‘Brag’ song was not to ‘jab’ Davido, Wizkid, Asake, and Blacko”

    In to rumours that he disparaged Nigerian music icons Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake in his most recent hip-hop song, “Brag,” renowned Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, better known by his stage name Sarkodie, has responded.

    Speaking about his objectives in an interview with VoxAfrica, the “Otan” hitmaker stated that his songs were not intended to belittle these musicians.

    Sarkodie declared in his song “Brag” that he was at the top of his game and had already established his own reputation in the rap industry before Davido and Wizkid became well-known.

    He went on to assert that, compared to Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, he is superior to all other African artists.

    The multi-award winning rapper revealed in an interview with VoxAfrica that his lyrics were merely allusions to his career highlights and stories about his history.

    He also revealed that, since these artists are not rappers, he would never “jab” them. Sarkodie says he likes the trend and energy because it is “great PR,” even though the rumours are unfounded.

    “I don’t understand what is going on but I just love it. It is great PR, you cannot even pay for this. I am just talking to rappers about how long I have been there. It is just references of how long I have been there, it’s not throwing jabs at anybody.

    “These are amazing and incredible artistes…to be very honest, I wouldn’t like to even clear this because I like the energy that is going on, it’s not true but I’m loving it,” he said.

    The current generation of leaders, according to prominent businessman and Chancellor of Cape Coast University Sir Sam Jonah, has not succeeded in setting an example for the younger generation to follow.

    In his view, the majority of world leaders have chosen to ignore the myriad issues that the world has been facing.

    Speaking over the weekend to the Morgan State University class of 2024 in Baltimore, USA, he clarified that the younger generation would bear the brunt of these consequences.

    “Through no fault of yours, a different world with various, and evolving, challenges awaits you. While many forebears may find cold comfort in progress made in certain aspects of life, I am not afraid to say in candour and humility that my generation has not been kind to you. We have left for you a world riddled with wars, famine, disease, racial and gender discrimination, and a multitude of problems,” he said.

    He continued by saying that despite the fact that problems like geopolitical and socioeconomic difficulties are staring leaders in the face everywhere in the world, nothing seems to be being done.

    According to Sir Jonah, when the youth rise up and point fingers at global leadership for poor governance, the leaders have to take responsibility.

    “The current global landscape is deeply influenced by a myriad of geopolitical and socio-economic challenges across all continents, highlighting the intricate interdependencies, and the urgent need for radical action. Societal divisions have intensified.

    “Sadly, all these seemingly intractable global crises reveal a paucity of humane, decisive, just, and provident leadership. It is instructive for the old to listen in humility when the young today say with anger and pain that my generation has failed them,” he added.

    Sir Jonah encouraged young people to get involved in politics despite the current leadership crisis, believing that this would help elect more capable leaders to positions of power.

    The businessman also counselled the graduates to supplement their degrees with the appropriate mindset, since success could not be attained with just a degree.

     “In all you do, remember that whilst your aptitude is a great asset, it is your attitude that will get you ahead,” he advised

    It has been made clear by well-known rapper Medikal that his divorce from Fella Makafui was not influenced by his “best pal” and fellow musician Shatta Wale.

    He stated that Shatta Wale, his older brother, had done everything in his power to make sure they put their disagreements aside and stayed together.

    However, according to Medikal, Fella Makafui had already moved on and made the decision to end the marriage.

    Declaring this publicly, Medikal refuted rumours that his affiliation with Shatta Wale caused a rift in his marriage.

    He said, “Shatta tried several times to help make this work, but the other side already had her mind made up, keep Shatta out of this Abeg”.

    In a series of videos that he shared on Snapchat, the rapper dropped a bombshell about his marriage to Fella Makafui, exposing bad news and past events.

    He stated in one of the videos that Fella Makfui abandoned her wedding ring upon her trip to Dubai, indicating her intention to end the union.

    Ghanaian rapper Vincent Kwaku Osei, also referred to as Strongman in the music industry, has stated that he is no longer interested in winning the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

    Strongman said that he is not overly excited about the awards and that he now has a different priority after losing the best rapper category five times in a row.

    Strongman, who is nominated for Best Rapper for his hit song “Dear God,” claims he is not really thinking about the Awards Night because of his constant loss.

    Speaking with Tony Best on Akoma Mmre on Akoma FM on Friday, the “Rap Is Still Alive” hitmaker stated he had more pressing matters to attend to rather than focusing on accolades that still disregard him.

    “This is the 6th time I have been nominated for the Best Rapper category and the 5th successive times but unfortunately turned to mirage, so I don’t need to pay much attention so that I won’t be disappointed.

    “I always submit my works for scrutiny but I don’t get recognized hence I need to devote my time and attention to things that make me more relevant and always entertain my fans and lovers.

    On June 1 at the AICC, the Premium Awards will celebrate 25 years, and music lovers will be ecstatic about another music festival.
