Ghana’s Wiyaala & Atongo Zimba made it to the list of ‘Global 500 Greatest Songs of All Time’

Atongo Zimba and Wiyaala from Ghana have been included in the list of “The Global 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Wiyaala’s Village Sex and Atongo’s No Beer in Heaven took the 419 and 316 positions respectively.

The list was compiled after two years of research by Alan Tigay, a seasoned author and music reviewer.

Wiyaala recently shared the good news on Facebook, wrote; “GHANA IS IN!

The esteemed author Alan M. Tigay of “World Listening Post” assembled the list.

The “list reflects global reality,” according to Tigay, not limiting itself to “a few genres” or “just the past few years,” and it most definitely goes beyond songs that are performed in the English language, something that authors of such lists, sadly, frequently fail to do.

He did, however, acknowledge that the “inclusive list” is by no means “final.”

“If I can offer one insight it would be that the most one can hope for is a list that is impressionistic. In two years of research I have concluded that there must be at least 10,000 songs that merit inclusion in a roster of the 500 best,” he revealed.

Legendary artists such as The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Edith Piaf, and The West; Africa’s Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo, Papa Wemba, Salif Keita, and Miriam Makeba; Asia’s Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and Teresa Teng; and the Middle East’s Ofra Haza and Googoosh were among those featured on the Global 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

With their distinctive sound, the Wiyaala duo has established a solid niche for themselves and gained a sizable fan base outside of Ghana.

Men Date Broke Ladies Because They Can Abuse & Control Them – Lydia Forson

Ghanaian actress and businesswoman Lydia Forson has explained why most men are drawn to financially independent women.

In a recent tweet, the well-known feminist clarified that most men prefer to date jobless women who cannot support themselves.

Lydia emphasised that most men do not like financially independent women, despite what is commonly believed.

Their incapacity to rule or control them is the cause of this.

“Some men know EXACTLY what they’re doing when they pick young girls or those who don’t have to spend on. It’s about power and control. It’s why they get so aggressive when they can’t control them any longer. It’s also why they don’t like women who have their own money!! She wrote on X formerly known as Twitter.

Her remarks have caused a great deal of controversy on social media since then, with many people criticising her for being a feminist.

While some people agreed with her, others disputed her claims.

  • Our goal is to win souls; not winning VGMA – Daughters of Glorious Jesus

Our goal is to win souls; not winning VGMA – Daughters of Glorious Jesus

The well-known all-female gospel group Daughters of Glorious Jesus has revealed that they have never entered the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, they stated that their main objective as gospel ministers is still to change people’s lives by using music to preach God’s word. Winning awards is not their ultimate goal.

Our primary goal is to win hearts rather than accolades, so we have no interest in selecting candidates for the VGMA. We do not want to get sidetracked or stray from our special calling,” they stated.

Additionally, they stated that even though they will not be buying forms to complete, they will still go to the event if they are nominated.

The sisters disclosed that they had been receiving honours from various award programmes across the globe without submitting nominations.

“If you want to do it for us, just go ahead and pick it; we’re ok,” they said.

The trio went on to say that they are motivated by accounts of how their songs have changed people’s lives.

They related the story of how their song “Nea Yehu Yi” saved a man who was pronounced dead because doctors were unable to determine the nature of his illness.

He claimed to have been looking for us for the past two years but was unsure of where to look.

According to him, “he was sick at Korle Bu, and the doctors declared him dead. They failed to notice the kind of illness he was afflicted with, so he returned home. When he got home, he put his radio on a particular station, and they were playing one of our songs, “Nea Yehu Yi.”

“He listened to the song, and after the DJ gave directions on where to get the CD, he sent someone to buy one for him. He repeated the song to himself at home for 2 weeks, and all he saw was himself being healed,” Cynthia, their lead singer, narrated.

According to them, such testimonials inspire them to carry out more deeds that honour the Lord.

The musical group has developed musicians, and they remain accessible and eager to instruct additional individuals in the gospel ministry.

  • I stayed out of the 2020 elections, I will do the same this year – Akwaboah

I stayed out of the 2020 elections, I will do the same this year – Akwaboah

Multiple award winning highlife musician Akwaboah has revealed that he abstained from the 2020 general elections, which resulted in President Akufo-Addo being re-elected for a second term.

In an interview with Accra FM, the artist claimed that political candidates who are elected to office “eventually come into power and misuse government money” because they fail to keep their campaign promises.

He has decided not to cast a ballot in the general elections this year because of this.

In response to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, who made promises during his lecture on Wednesday regarding tax breaks for the creative arts sector and the launch of new streaming platforms, Akwaboah emphasised that these are just political campaign ploys.

“We have heard these assurances countless times. It is not only him. He stated on Thursday’s midmorning show on Accra FM, “Anybody who wants political power says the same or something similar, thinking that is what would get them needed attention from the creative arts sector.”

He bemoaned the fact that certain slick claims frequently work to persuade the electorate’s less knowledgeable members.

Because “typical Ghanaians are too shy and cower from asking questions” about the ideas and utterances of leaders who are either aspiring or substantive, the situation is made worse.

He claims that instead of evaluating the validity of promises made by aspirant leaders, Ghanaians are more impressed by charisma and “English proficiency.”

According to him, this compels people to vote based on “kinship, ethnic, and tribal lines.”

He elaborated, saying, “I will not say I believe [Dr. Bawumia] or not; we are just hoping that he will keep his promises.”

When asked if he would join other voters to the polls on December 7. The singer definitively replied, “no,” and disclosed that he did not vote in the general elections of 2020.

In an attempt to become the next president, the leaders of the two major political parties have started their separate campaigns across the nation.
