Hold Davido responsible if anything happens to me — Tiwa Savage

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has filed a petition against Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over an alleged threat to her life.

Savage in a petition addressed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fayoade Adegoke, and circulating online, alleged that the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ crooner threatened her over a social media exchange.

She asked the police boss to hold Davido responsible if anything untoward happened to her, adding that Davido had asked their mutual connections to warn her.

Savage explained that the misunderstanding may not be unconnected to her relationship with Sophia Momodu, Davido’s baby mama, whom he (Davido) was having issues with.

    So This Happened (225) Reviews Tinubu’s S’Court Victory, UNIPORT…
The petition read, “I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation involving myself, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, and Mr David Adeleke popularly known as Davido.

“On the 23rd of December, I made a post which included myself and Sophía Momodu on my Instagram Story- a feature on Instagram which allows you to put up a post for twenty-four hours, and Mr David Adeleke sent messages to my manager who’s also part of his management team that I shouldn’t worry and should never say a word to him and that I was taunting him, uttering very disrespectful, malicious and derogatory words to my person.

“I responded to MR. DAVID ADELEKE’S message and told him not to reach out to me especially as I felt like I had been there for him and his daughter, Imade, and more importantly when he lost his son.

“The events of that day have also led to a barrage of calls and messages from our mutual connections, asking me what 1 did to Mr David Adeleke and that he’s upset that I chose to maintain a relationship with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu who he’s having issues with and also painting the exchange to look like I was the aggressor. He has also told our mutual connections to warn me to “be careful in Lagos because he was going to f”k me up”.

“This is beginning to feel like some form of online and offline harassment not just to me but also members of my team.

“The action of Mr David Adeleke is unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy and dignity of my person as guaranteed in Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and are also in contravention of Section 2424) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.

“I therefore would like to make this complaint and state that in the event that anything untoward or harmful were to happen to me or any member of my family, I would like the members of the Nigerian Police Force to hold Mr David Adeleke responsible.”

The Lagos Police Command Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the petition from the singer.

“It is genuine,” Hundeyin said when contacted by our correspendent to confirm the veracity of the petition.

The PUNCH reports that there was a buzz on social media on Saturday, January 6, 2024, as popular afrobeats artistes— David Adeleke (Davido) and Tiwatope Savage—unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Davido and Savage were known to have had a cordial relationship over the years, with their children, Imade Adeleke and Jamil Balogun, following in their parents’ footsteps.

Both children attended the same school and had been seen on several occasions enjoying each other’s company.

However, there have been diverse speculations as to what could have informed both top artistes unfollowing each other, with some fans opining that the move could be a result of the waxing friendship between Savage and Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child, Imade.

  • Blakk Rasta asserts Cook-a-thon attempt by Chef Faila is a “suicide mission”

Blakk Rasta asserts Cook-a-thon attempt by Chef Faila is a “suicide mission”

The media personality Blakk Rasta has expressed apprehension about Chef Faila’s continuous endeavour to surpass the Guinness World Record for the lengthiest culinary marathon.

Concerns regarding possible health risks related to Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon were voiced by Blakk Rasta. He vehemently disagreed with the notion that people should deprive themselves of enough sleep for an extended length of time, calling it a “suicide mission.” Using the occasion, he issued a warning against the growing nationwide trend of different types of marathons, such as sex-a-thons, stand-a-thons, and kiss-a-thons.

Blakk Rasta stressed the importance of putting one’s own wellbeing first in a video that Happyhome TV posted on their YouTube channel. He emphasised that it is dangerous to go without sleep for longer than three days and made it clear that he could not support such initiatives. Although he commended the participants’ efforts, he hoped they would think twice about the possible long-term effects on their health.

“They want to have a sex-a-thon in Ghana. Some wish to participate in a stand-a-thon. They spend five hours standing this way. No resting or doing anything for five hours. Another desire of some is to participate in a kiss-a-thon. That was a picture of Chef Faila in Tamale going about her business. Once more, even though we adore and value them, I will not support a suicide mission.

“I also believe that going more than three days without sleep is a suicide mission. That is not something I will endorse. Regarding you, I have no idea. I refer to it as a suicide mission, but you call it pushing the envelope. He prayed that they would not perish and would take a lesson that would benefit the entire country.

The Modern City Hotel in Tamale is the venue for Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon, which has already exceeded the 200-hour mark and is scheduled to last 240 hours in total.

  • Concerns regarding the revocation of the Convention 2024; Did they ultimately make use of the space? How much money is being refunded, and to whom?

Concerns regarding the revocation of the Convention 2024; Did they ultimately make use of the space? How much money is being refunded, and to whom?

Following the cancellation of the Convention 2024 by the Office of the President, many would-be-attendees were upset and in uproar for the event scheduled for Sunday 7th January, 2024 at the Independence Square.

The reasoning behind the abrupt cancellation seems to be shrouded in mystery and confusion, given that the contradictory official statement was of a scheduled yet “unforeseen state event”.

It remains to be seen however; how the state event took place despite clear obstructions of the equipment that was mounted for the Convention 2024.

There is also the matter of permit revocation. The permit was revoked from the Black Star Line Festival by the office of the President and compensation awarded to them for their purchase amounting to GHS 10,000.

However, our source from the New Africa Foundation refutes this claim, confirming, alongside receipt evidence that the government gave The New Africa Foundation the license to use the venue from the 2nd to the 8th of January, 2024. This further complicates matters as it means that the government is either paying the wrong entity for the event cancellation or worse, giving license for use of the venue to two separate companies at the same time.

Moreover, the document shared by the NAF, stamped by The Office of the President shows a fee of GHS30,000 paid by the New Africa Foundation in November 2023, not by the Black Star Line. Did the press statement for the government not have access to this file? Was the event even canceled?

    Total amount spent

According to The New Africa Foundation, they spent close to $250,000 on the event planning, setup and execution, a sunk cost they would not be able to recoup without seeking consequential legal recourse against the government for the abrupt cancellation.

Is this right for this to happen in a democracy?

There is a concern among many young people, present at the venue or online, that all these obfuscative tactics of subterfuge, create an impression of governmental suppression. In a year of great economic and financial turmoil in Ghana, the Convention pledged to ‘Ignite the voices of Africa’, offering a change in governance. Such incendiary language possibly caused what many see as an undemocratic suppression of the right to convene and associate, as well as the right to freedom of speech. Many responses following the cancellation of the Convention seem to insinuate that it was purposely sabotaged at the 11th hour due the Government’s fear of support for the messages being shared at this event.

Questions concerning the Ghana’s governance have arisen from the people, asking; Do we live in a democracy where people are allowed to convene and share a message of hope, or are we run by autocratic dictators, ready to stomp on anything with which they disagree.

What does the New Africa Foundation do (Mission)?

The New Africa Foundation’s mission entails disseminating the narrative that Africans are not solely reliant on external aid; rather, they aim to underscore the paradigm shift wherein Africans are poised to contribute aid to the global community. New Africa epitomizes this transformative ethos. Recognizing the prevailing imagery of African children and nations perpetuated by the world—marked by destitution and hunger—the foundation endeavors to cultivate, motivate, and elevate emerging youth in Africa through diverse channels. They strive to facilitate their engagement in impactful modes of self-governance and the establishment of robust business ventures and entrepreneurial endeavors.

    What was the convention for?

The Convention, sponsored by the New Africa Foundation. This event was scheduled to take place on the 7th of January 2024 at the Kwame Nkrumah Independence Square, coinciding with Ghana’s inauguration day. This event was to encompass different facets of African excellence; including thought leaders and artists, all before an eclectic audience including every stratum, community and group that constitute the country, a microcosmic representation for the macrocosmic continent, to Ignite the Voices of Africa. The intention was to; give hope to the youth, encourage the leaders for their great efforts to the continent, and usher in a new, collaboratively-developed vision for the future of Africa’s self-governance.

This event was to be a monumental and historic display of Africa’s ability to join forces and charter a course for a better future.

The New Africa Foundation claims that they incurred sunk costs of nearly $250,000 on the setup, planning, and implementation of The Convention 2024, which they will not be able to recover short of pursuing legal action against the government for the sudden cancellation.

The goal of the New Africa Foundation is to highlight the paradigm shift that holds that Africans are able to assist the international community, rather than merely depending on outside assistance. This ethos of transformation is embodied by New Africa.

  • Ghana’s AFCON 2023 campaign lacks spark as Namibia holds Black Stars in final friendly

Ghana’s AFCON 2023 campaign lacks spark as Namibia holds Black Stars in final friendly

Ghana’s preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are raising concerns just six days before the Black Stars commence their campaign in the Ivory Coast.

In their final friendly match on Monday evening, the Black Stars settled for a lacklustre goalless draw against Namibia at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. The uninspiring performance left fans disappointed and questioning the team’s capability to make a significant impact in the upcoming tournament.

Despite being ranked 61st by FIFA, the four-time African champions struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against Namibia, ranked 115th. The stalemate marks Ghana’s fifth game under Coach Chris Hughton, with only one victory against Madagascar and defeats to Mexico, USA, and Comoros.

The 0-0 draw with Namibia is particularly alarming for Ghana, as it signifies the fifth instance where the team failed to score under Hughton’s management.

The first half of the game which was not broadcast on television at coach Hughton’s insistence showcased an uninspiring performance, with a marginal improvement in the second half, yet the Black Stars were unable to put the Namibians to the sword.

Despite substitutions implemented by Hughton in the latter part of the match, Namibia resiliently held on for the draw, leaving fans at the stadium disappointed.

As Ghana struggles to exhibit an intense style of play, apprehensions are growing ahead of their Group B opener against Cape Verde on January 14. The Black Stars will face additional challenges in the group stage, taking on seven-time African champions Egypt before concluding their group fixtures against Mozambique.
