In to rumours that he disparaged Nigerian music icons Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake in his most recent hip-hop song, “Brag,” renowned Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, better known by his stage name Sarkodie, has responded.

Speaking about his objectives in an interview with VoxAfrica, the “Otan” hitmaker stated that his songs were not intended to belittle these musicians.

Sarkodie declared in his song “Brag” that he was at the top of his game and had already established his own reputation in the rap industry before Davido and Wizkid became well-known.

He went on to assert that, compared to Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, he is superior to all other African artists.

The multi-award winning rapper revealed in an interview with VoxAfrica that his lyrics were merely allusions to his career highlights and stories about his history.

He also revealed that, since these artists are not rappers, he would never “jab” them. Sarkodie says he likes the trend and energy because it is “great PR,” even though the rumours are unfounded.

ā€œI don’t understand what is going on but I just love it. It is great PR, you cannot even pay for this. I am just talking to rappers about how long I have been there. It is just references of how long I have been there, it’s not throwing jabs at anybody.

ā€œThese are amazing and incredible artistes…to be very honest, I wouldn’t like to even clear this because I like the energy that is going on, it’s not true but I’m loving it,ā€ he said.

The petition read, ā€œI am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation involving myself, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, and Mr David Adeleke popularly known as Davido.

ā€œOn the 23rd of December, I made a post which included myself and SophĆa Momodu on my Instagram Story- a feature on Instagram which allows you to put up a post for twenty-four hours, and Mr David Adeleke sent messages to my manager who’s also part of his management team that I shouldn’t worry and should never say a word to him and that I was taunting him, uttering very disrespectful, malicious and derogatory words to my person.

ā€œI responded to MR. DAVID ADELEKE’S message and told him not to reach out to me especially as I felt like I had been there for him and his daughter, Imade, and more importantly when he lost his son.

ā€œThe events of that day have also led to a barrage of calls and messages from our mutual connections, asking me what 1 did to Mr David Adeleke and that he’s upset that I chose to maintain a relationship with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu who he’s having issues with and also painting the exchange to look like I was the aggressor. He has also told our mutual connections to warn me to ā€œbe careful in Lagos because he was going to fā€k me upā€.

ā€œThis is beginning to feel like some form of online and offline harassment not just to me but also members of my team.

ā€œThe action of Mr David Adeleke is unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy and dignity of my person as guaranteed in Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and are also in contravention of Section 2424) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) ā€œI therefore would like to make this complaint and state that in the event that anything untoward or harmful were to happen to me or any member of my family, I would like the members of the Nigerian Police Force to hold Mr David Adeleke responsible.ā€

The Lagos Police Command Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the petition from the singer.
