Ghanaian rapper Edwin Kwame Ohene Darko, known as Pope Skinny, recently spoke candidly about his former collaborator, the Reggae/Dancehall superstar Shatta Wale. In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo program, Pope Skinny defended Shatta Wale against the often negative perceptions that surround him.
Pope Skinny pointed out that Shatta Wale’s outspoken nature often leads to misunderstandings, painting him as a villain. He emphasized that Wale typically reacts to provocation rather than initiating conflict. “I learned confidence from Shatta Wale,” Pope Skinny remarked, highlighting the personal growth he attributes to his former friend.
In addition to confidence, he credited Shatta Wale with imparting valuable financial wisdom. “Shatta Wale saves a lot of money,” he noted, reflecting on the financial lessons he absorbed during their time together.
Addressing speculation regarding a rumored gift of a Mercedes Benz from Shatta Wale, Pope Skinny clarified the situation. He explained that although Wale had announced a new car within the family, he never claimed it was meant for him.
As he reminisced about their past relationship, Pope Skinny expressed his longing for the friendship they once shared, saying, “I miss him every day. He’s our guy.” He conveyed a sense of regret over how their relationship deteriorated but remained grateful for the positive influence Shatta Wale had on his life, particularly in building his confidence and financial acumen.
Through his reflections, Pope Skinny illustrates the complexities of friendship in the music industry, underscoring the impact one individual can have on another’s journey, even amidst challenges and misunderstandings.
