Parliament to use local dialects during proceedings

To preserve Ghanaian culture, the Parliament plans to include regional languages in its sessions.

MPs are permitted to use local languages with universal translation under Order 63. Promoting cultural diversity is the goal of the initiative, which got underway at the second meeting of the fourth session.

Speaker Alban Bagbin promised that all equipment and translators would be available for a seamless launch following the Easter holiday. The decision was made in response to talks that were started by MP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who supported the preservation of the Nzema language.

The Speaker referred the matter to committees on Education, Culture, Tourism, and Finance for a decision. This is in line with the new Standing Orders that Parliament recently instituted to increase accountability and patriotism among MPs. These include a daily roll call and the recitation of the national pledge.
