Family of late Atta Mills demands autopsy report decade after his death

Ten years after his passing, Atta Mills’ family is demanding an autopsy report.

The family of the late former president, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, has officially asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to provide them with the autopsy report of the late leader.

They expressed concern about the unidentified cause of his death and emphasised the importance of getting the report for historical records and closure.

This appeal was made on the family’s behalf by Nana Enyimfua III, who visited the president on Saturday in Accra. The family wants to obtain the report prior to President Akufo-Addo’s term coming to an end.

“Our biggest problem as a family is that ever since I was enstooled as queenmother, I have not seen any autopsy report in the family,” Nana Enyimfua III said in an address to President Akufo-Addo. The main issue I have with the family is that I will not be able to respond if someone asks me what killed him, even if the doctor says he broke his neck, arm, or drank something.

We therefore beg you and the government to grant the family access to the autopsy report so that, when I am no longer queen mother, future generations will be able to learn from it. This is because no child in the family is aware of what killed the late former president, so they will not be talking about me, the queen mother. Therefore, I beg of you on behalf of the family, please allow us to obtain the autopsy report before you leave the office.
