GRIDCo and ECG Announce Three-Week Power Interruption

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have declared a three-week interruption in power supply due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria. The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) attributed this reduction to maintenance work being conducted by a Nigerian gas supplier.

    • Duration and Consequences

The maintenance, which is anticipated to last for three weeks, has led to a decline in Ghana’s overall power generation capacity. As a result, load management measures may be necessary during this period.

    • Reassurance to Consumers

GRIDCo and ECG are actively collaborating with other stakeholders in the power sector to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers. They have expressed their apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Below is the official statement from GRIDCo and ECG:

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) wish to inform the public that, due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria since Wednesday, 12th June 2024, some areas across the country have experienced interruptions in power supply.

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has explained in a statement that the reduction in gas supply is due to maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria, which is projected to last three weeks.

The maintenance has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana, which could result in load management over the period of the work.

GRIDCo and ECG, however, wish to assure the public that we are collaborating with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimize available resources and ensure minimal impact of the reduction in gas supply on consumers.

GRIDCo and ECG sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

  • Prophet Kofi Oduro Criticizes Valuing Foreign Passports Over PhDs

Prophet Kofi Oduro Criticizes Valuing Foreign Passports Over PhDs

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the head pastor of Alabaster International Ministries, has voiced his strong opposition to comparing the value of foreign passports with that of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The outspoken preacher condemned the ongoing social media debate, which questions whether a PhD is more valuable than a foreign passport. He called such discussions absurd, particularly when others are investing their time in creating innovations for the betterment of humanity.

Addressing his congregation, Prophet Oduro denounced the debate over passports and PhDs as “nonsense.”

“Does owning a Dutch passport mean education is no longer necessary? This diminishes the value of education. While people are making strides in fields like artificial intelligence, we’re here talking nonsense,” he said.

He emphasized that these debates are fundamentally flawed, offering no value in death and being irrelevant to one’s salvation.

“What significance does an American or British passport hold? It’s all vanity, and I don’t care about your opinion. When Ebony passed away, she didn’t take her visa-filled passport with her. I’ve lived overseas and know how things truly are. There are opportunities, but it’s not as easy as it seems,” he expressed.

The controversy originated with Kofi Gabs, a Ghanaian cleaner residing in the Netherlands, also known as Mr. Happiness. He argued that a Dutch passport is more advantageous than a PhD from Ghana. His remarks, made upon receiving Dutch citizenship and a passport, have sparked widespread discussion online.

  • Liha Miller on Her Unsuccessful Marriage to Patapaa

Liha Miller on Her Unsuccessful Marriage to Patapaa

German socialite Liha Miller has announced the end of her marriage to Ghanaian musician Patapaa Amisty, which began in 2021.

In a recent viral interview, Miller revealed that their marriage began to deteriorate shortly after the wedding.

“I don’t usually want to discuss it, but there’s a lot of misinformation, so I need to clarify a few things,” she said. “I married Patapaa in 2021, but the marriage didn’t work out.”

Miller explained that although their marriage has not been legally dissolved yet, they are in the process of getting a divorce.

“We are officially married because we had a court marriage, and in Ghana, it’s a process. I’ve asked for a divorce, so we’re in the middle of that. Patapaa and I haven’t spoken directly for years; the last time I saw him was after our wedding in 2021. Since then, we haven’t communicated at all,” she explained.

Miller mentioned that she had been requesting a divorce for a long time, but Patapaa hadn’t taken it seriously. “The marriage just didn’t succeed,” she added.

Patapaa and Liha Miller were married in January 2021 in Agona Swedru, Central Region. By 2022, Patapaa expressed his displeasure over Liha’s decision to pursue a comedy career in Nigeria without his consent. He disapproved of her appearing in skits he felt were inappropriate, including one where a man with dreadlocks removed her pants on set.

“I love my wife, but after her trip to Nigeria, I told her not to come back to me. She wanted to return to Ghana, but I didn’t allow it. I know her as a nurse, not a comedian,” Patapaa told Cape Coast-based Kastle FM. He also mentioned that his family criticized him for marrying Liha after seeing the video.

In 2022, Patapaa’s father, Opanyin Kwesi Amoah, denied rumours of their divorce, insisting that the couple was still legally married and on good terms. However, Patapaa later explained that their separation was partly due to Liha’s work commitments as a nurse in Germany.

Recently, Liha was seen with a “mystery man” she referred to as her husband, sparking speculation that she has found new love. She is currently in Ghana, collaborating on various projects with skit producer Atemmuda.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy Clash at University of Ghana, Legon (Video)

Two of Ghana’s biggest music stars, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, had a dramatic encounter at the University of Ghana, Legon. The incident occurred during a highly anticipated campus event that drew significant attention from students and spectators.

Reports indicate that a rift emerged when the two artists—known for their long-standing rivalry—were scheduled to perform at different venues for their respective events: Liman Hall Artiste Night and Shatta’s TF Reunion Rave 24.

Allegedly, Shatta Wale was not allowed to perform at his scheduled event due to concerns raised by a team from the Bhim Nation camp. Witnesses claim the altercation began during a sound check conducted by the SM camp team and organizers.

A directive from Legon management reportedly confirmed that Shatta Wale was unable to perform for undisclosed reasons.

Upon receiving the order, Wale took to social media to voice his disapproval of the decision and blamed Stonebwoy for it.

According to the “On God” hitmaker, Stonebwoy is responsible for that decision and perceives it as a negative step towards sabotaging the industry.
