Vice President Dr. Bawumia meets Pope Francis in Rome

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Pope Francis had a private meeting earlier yesterday Thursday, April 24, 2024 in Rome.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and the pontiff met in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall “auletta,” or small study, according to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office.

Following that, Dr. Bawumia met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations.

According to the Holy See Press Office, the meeting focused on a number of facets of Ghana’s political and socioeconomic environment while highlighting the Holy See and Ghana’s positive relationship.

The conversation brought attention to the two organisations’ continued cooperation, particularly in vital fields like healthcare and education.

In a post on X, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated: “This historic meeting gave me the chance to strengthen Ghana’s long-standing relationship with the Vatican State and the Pope and to discuss many national and global issues with Pope Francis.”

“I also had a meeting with the Vatican Secretary for relations with States and International Organisations, H.E Paul Richard Gallagher and Ghana’s pride, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, who was kind to show me around the Vatican.”

The meeting between Vice President Bawumia and Pope Francis represents the continued communication and collaboration between Ghana and the Holy See.
