Ghanaian actress and TV personality Nana Ama McBrown has shared a deeply personal perspective on tithing, revealing that she prefers to direct her charitable contributions to those in need on the streets rather than following the traditional practice of giving to church. According to McBrown, this method enables her to make a more immediate and meaningful difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
In an interview on her own show, Onua Showtime with McBrown, hosted by Ernest Kwesi Ennin and co-hosted by blogger Kobby Kyei on Friday, January 24, 2025, McBrown expressed that she believes helping people directly in the community is an essential part of her life’s mission. “I pay my tithes more on the street than in church,” she said, highlighting her commitment to making a tangible impact on society’s most vulnerable members.
Her philanthropic efforts are not limited to casual gestures; McBrown also shared that in 2024, she invested over GH₵90,000 to pay school fees for students in need. This initiative was part of her broader effort to give back to Ghanaians who have supported her throughout her illustrious career. She also clarified that while she often prefers to keep many of her charitable acts private, her birthday donations are made public, especially when involving the brands she represents.
“It’s important to let my sponsors know that their contributions have been delivered as intended,” McBrown explained, emphasizing the significance of transparency in her work with sponsors and partners.
The actress, who is also a brand ambassador, attributed much of her success to God’s grace, her dedication, and her consistent humility. Reflecting on her journey, McBrown credited her uncle with changing her name from Felicity Agyemang to Nana Ama McBrown, a decision she believes significantly shaped her career. “Because of my humility and hard work, I branded myself as Nana Ama McBrown. That’s what helped me secure more ambassadorial deals,” she shared, underscoring the importance of understanding and aligning with her employers.
In addition to her ongoing charitable work, McBrown revealed that a project documenting her legacy was completed two and a half years ago with the help of entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo. However, the project is still awaiting its official release.
